The MLS Mavericks were in Drake on a cold, cold Friday night, October 3rd, for a Region 3 nine-man contest against the Drake/Anamoose Raiders.

MLS scored the lone touchdowns in the first quarter, as Quarterback Stater Olson scored on a 2 yard run (Trey Holsten run); and Talon Thompson scored on a touchdown pass from Olson (run failed), putting the Mavericks up 14 to 0.

Drake/Anamoose cut into the Mavericks’ lead, when Austin Schatz scored on a 10 yard run (Garrett Uhlich run), making it a 14 to 8 game. The Mavericks answered when Trevor Evanger scored on a run (Thompson pass from Olson), increasing MLS’s lead to 22 to 8. However, the Raiders would cut the Mavericks lead to just 8 points heading into the half, when Garrett Uhlich scored on a 20 yard run (run failed). Score at the half was 22 to 14 in favor of the Mavericks.

Both teams made their way into the end zone in the second half, with MLS scoring in the third quarter on a 5 yard pass from Statler Olson to Talon Thompson (Connor Brackenbury pass from Olson). It was now a 30 to 14 game, which was how the third ended. The Raiders from Drake/Anamoose scored the lone touchdown in the fourth quarter, when Uhlich scored on a 17 yard run (kick failed). However it wouldn’t be enough, as the Mavericks went on to win the regional contest by a score of 30 to 20.

Individual match stats for the Lady Mavericks:
Kills: Callie Carlson 9.

MLS went into tournament play as the #1 team from their pool, as Minot Ryan forfeited and did not move on to tournament play.
