Renville County Mallards finish third
at the Gateway League Tournament

Renville County Mallards finished third at the Gateway League Tournament held in Lansford on July 15th and 16th. The 2014 Gateway Babe Ruth League Tournament was held in Lansford on Tuesday, July 15th and Wednesday, July 16th.

Opening round games were played on Tuesday, July 15th.

In the first game, Surrey matched up with Stanley, with the Blue Sox from Surrey winning by a single run, 7 to 6.

Renville County shut-out Watford City in the second game, beating them 7 to 0. Charlie Eriksmoen was the winning pitcher for the Mallards, and recorded 11 strike outs. Behind the plate doing the catching was Statler Olson. Take the loss for Watford City was Brock Haugeburg, with Jackson Voll behind the plate catching. Leading hitters for the Mallards were: Hunter Rodin, who was 1 for 3 with a single, a run, and a RBI; Henry Savelkoul scored a run; Talon Thompson was 1 for 2 with a double, a run, and two RBIs; Wyatt Schmidt was 2 for 2 with two singles, scored two runs, and had a RBI; Clay Froseth was 2 for 2 at the plate with a double, a single, a run, and a RBI; and Charlie Eriksmoen reached on a walk and pinch runner Kaleb Foltyn scored.

In a loser-out game played on Tuesday, July 15th, Stanley eliminated Watford City, beating them 9 to 1.

The final game on Tuesday, July 15th had Renville County and Surrey playing each other, with Surrey shutting out the Mallards by a score of 7 to 0. Winning battery for Surrey was Chase Hiller and Konner Beeter. On the mound and taking the loss for Renville County was Statler Olson, with Nick Eriksmoen catching. For the game, Wyatt Schmidt had a single; and Clay Froseth was 1 for 2 at the plate with a single and a walk.

Action got underway on Wednesday, July 16th with Renville County playing Stanley in a loser-out game. The Mallards from Renville County were eliminated from the tournament, losing to Stanley 4 to 2. Mohall youth teams wrap up their seasons

The Mohall T-Ball teams ended their season on Thursday, July 17th when they played each other in Mohall. Due to the number of youth again participating in the T-ball program, the team was split into two groups, the Cubs and the Red Soxs.

The Mohall Pee Wees were also split up into two teams and played each other for the Inner City Championship on Thursday, July 17th. It took an extra inning to decide the winner, with the Mohall Yankees coming out on top, beating the Mohall Twins 11 to 9.

The season ended for the Mohall Midgets on Friday, July 18th when they hosted a team from Minot for a doubleheader. Mohall Midget Tourney
Mohall hosted the Northwest Midget Tournament at the Mohall Fairgrounds on Tuesday, July 15th. Results from those games were as follows:
Opening Round:
Mohall defeated Lignite 15 to 1. Winning pitcher was Henry Savelkoul, with brother, Joe Savelkoul, in relief. Catchers were Stetson Helwig and Kaleb Foltyn. Picking up hits for Mohall were: Henry Savelkoul, 3 for 3 with a home run and a double; Bryden Santos, 2 for 2 with a double; Brock Depute, 1 for 2; Lucas Undlin, 1 for 1; Brayden Volk, 1 for 2; Garrett Schmidt, 1 for 2 with a double; Jerze Jorgensen, 1 for 1 with a double; Corbin Hall, 1 for 2; Joe Savelkoul, 1 for 1; Jacob Undlin, 1 for 2; and Stetson Helwig, 2 for 2.
Crosby won their game against Powers Lake, beating them 17 to 6.
Stanley won by the ten run rule, 11 to 1 over Kenmare.
Remaining Games:
In a loser-out game, Kenmare eliminated Powers Lake, beating them 5 to 2.
Mohall advanced in the winnerís bracket, beating Tioga 20 to 1. Winning pitcher for Mohall was Lucas Undlin, with Kaleb Foltyn coming in for relief. Catchers were Kaleb Foltyn and Stetson Helwig. Credited with hits for the Mohall team: Henry Savelkoul was 2 for 2; Bryden Santos, 2 for 3 with a homer; Gannon Hall, 1 for 2; Kaleb Foltyn, 2 for 4; Rhyder Jorgensen, 1 for 2; Joe Savelkoul, 3 for 3; Lucas Undlin, 2 for 3; and Billy Sanders, 1 for 2.
The other winnerís bracket game has Crosby beating Stanley 9 to 1.

Powers Lake Pee Wee Tournament
Mohall traveled to Powers Lake on Wednesday, July 16th to participate in the Pee Wee Tournament held there. It was a double elimination tournament.

In their opening game, Mohall defeated Crosby by a score of 4 to 2.

Then in game two, Mohall matched up with Stanley and defeated them 15 to 3.

Mohall then played Powers Lake and beat them 6 to 3.

Powers Lake made their way back into the championship game to play Mohall for the title. Mohall dominated that game, beating Powers Lake 13 to 1.
