This past weekend I had the opportunity to get away from the office for three and a half days. Roger, Kathryn, and I left at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29th and head to Fargo for the Girls’ State B and A Fast Pitch Softball Tournaments held in West Fargo. Despite all the rain, wind, and cold, it was a fun weekend and well worth the trip. Was great to get away, even though it meant a long day on Sunday and Monday to get the paper done.
We had nice weather until we got to Grand Forks Wednesday evening and from there, all the way into Fargo, it was pouring rain. After we checked into our motel, we headed out to get something to eat and then drove out to the fields to see where they were at and what they were like. By that time the one field had water standing by third base and first base. By Saturday morning West Fargo had received 4 1/2” of rain. Park crews had to put in several hours to get the fields ready to play by noon on Thursday. They did an excellent job and their work was never ending, as it rained more on Thursday, again on Friday, and a few sprinkles on Saturday. But man, was it ever cold Saturday morning -- we were all in coats, hats, mittens, and blankets trying to stay warm, and the girls wore their warm-up jackets.
KBMLS didn’t fare so well on Thursday and Friday, as they lost both of those games, but they did come back on Saturday and defeat Watford City, who had beaten them for the Regional Title. They came home with 7th place and had two girls - Shania Brackenbury and Emily Abernathey on the All State Team. Great job girls -- you had a great season and you were fun to watch and cheer on!
